PART ONE VOCABULARY

1.circuit,clout

As an addict of the sports pages in my boyhood, I learned about the
circuit clout before I learned about the electrical circuit.

circuit:(in sport)a series of games or matches in which the same players
regularly take part

clout:[uncountable]power and influence

political/financial clout

I knew his opinion carried a lot of clout with them.

2.southpaw,lanky

Southpaws were always lanky, portsiders always chunky,

southpaw: a person who prefers to use their left hand rather than their
right, especially in a sport such as boxing

lanky:(of a person)having long thin arms and legs and moving in an
awkward way

PART TWO THOUGHTS

Hang around the track and the stable, the stadium and the rink.
Observe closely. Interview in depth. Listen to old-timers. Ponder the
changes. Write well.

钱在U.S.
